The most common setting for psychotherapy is meeting face to face, one-on-one. Regardless of what the issues are, or amount of distress a woman might be facing, Individual Psychotherapy is proven to be effective. Our practice provides a relaxed safe place where concerns and problems are discussed openly. Dr. Petrongelli implements the most recommended evidence-based practices and adapts various therapeutic processes to the meet the needs of an individual.
Once a Well Women Visit is completed, which includes a comprehensive physical and mental health assessment (see more under Well Women Visit), psychotherapy sessions will be scheduled. Dr. Petrongelli utilizes a wide range of emotional, cognitive, and behavioral approaches providing services in a comfortable, non-judgmental and supportive atmosphere. Her psychotherapeutic orientations include Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (Behavioral and Dialectical Behavior Therapy), Humanistic Therapy (Person-Centered and Client-Centered), and Somatic Experiencing. Therapeutic approaches are applied to each client to best help a women reach her personal goals. In that respect, Dr. Petrongelli may use one orientation during one session, and other orientations as the therapeutic relationship evolves.
Use of Psychotropic Medications
Dr. Petrongelli implements psychotropic medications into a client's treatment plan with caution and diligent monitoring once prescribed. Psychotropic medications are added to a women's treatment plan after non-pharmacological alternatives have been applied and the client continues to have emotional distress interfering with levels of functioning.
